Letter to the Editor: A Vote Against Alberta

On Thursday, February 4th, 2016, a letter to the editor by MP Kelly McCauley was published in the Edmonton Journal.

Read the letter to the editor below.

Dear Editor,

Last week, the Conservative Official Opposition introduced a motion for the House of Commons to voice its support for the Energy East pipeline, a shovel ready project that would produce thousands of high-paying jobs for Albertans.

To no one’s surprise, the Liberal Government opposed this measure. What shocked me; however, was opposition to this pipeline coming from Alberta’s four Liberal MPs; Randy Boissonnault of Edmonton Centre, Amarjeet Sohi of Edmonton Mill Woods, Kent Hehr of Calgary Centre, and Darshan Kang of Calgary Skyview.

During the last election, Alberta Liberal candidates promised their support for projects like Energy East. Mr. Boissonnault for example, once famously said “we’re pro Keystone, pro Energy East and if we can figure out the right line west, let’s build west.”

Yet when faced with the opportunity to support Energy East, Mr. Boissonnault and his three Alberta colleagues chose political partisanship over representing their constituents.

Another Liberal Decade of Darkness is upon us, where Alberta does not matter, and the East runs the show. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this ‘real change’ Alberta, because it’s 2016.

Kelly McCauley

Member of Parliament, Edmonton West
